Vintage Modernist Chair

We found this listed in Pittsburgh and knew it was special, but neither the seller nor us knew the history, designer, or manufacturer. Upon our return we dug into researching this wonderful chair. It’s very similar to an Alvar Aalto “Hall Chair”, but we recently confirmed that it’s sadly NOT by him. It is vintage, but it’s origins remain unknown. Note the rich patina. The seating surface has a “matchbook veneer” that creates the wonderful swirled pattern of the grain…and there are wonderful “finger joint” details on the arms.
