SGT. PICKERS began, as great ideas often do, with multiple rejections. John Henken, a retired Industrial Designer who had been prowling antique malls, flea markets, and yard sales in a 50 year quest for coolness in all forms, bumped into a WWll era cookie jar depicting a cartoony GI with an endearing face dressed in Army olive drab.
Mr. Henken; frequently prone to extended periods of limited intellectual activity…passed on this wondrous and previously unseen artifact, not once, but twice, on two separate vintage shopping sojourns and left him abandoned on the shelf. Upon returning a third time and fortified with a caffeinated beverage…he picked up the cookie cache and paid for same; and shouted, “Haloo! He is mine!”, thus beginning the journey that is SGT. PICKERS!
